What is MSBlaster?
W32.Blaster.Worm is the latest online threat sweeping the globe. Unlike most widespread consumer viruses which have spread via email, Blaster worm has taken many users by surprise, silently infecting unprotected, Internet-connected PCs without any user action. Blaster Worm exploits a flaw in Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 operating systems to deposit itself on Internet connected PCs. While current strains are more annoyance than damaging, causing repeated system crashes and lost productivity, the worm is slated to use the systems it has infected as slaves in a denial of service attack on the Microsoft Update site.
